During the judging of the Fallen London Hallowmas Competition, Failbetter collectively became enamoured of The Eager Glove by godzillasflyingpizza.
Given that godzillasflyingpizza was shortlisted for their fabulous Knife and Candle cupcakes, we were unable to also shortlist the Eager Glove. This post is by way of special mention.
Something about it captivated us. Perhaps its uncanny resemblance to the in-game icon. Perhaps the impenetrable expression in its googly eye.
Either way, a cult quickly sprang up in worship of the Eager Glove, which included the creation of an emoji:
So if you were in doubt of our process for shortlisting (thorough) or passion for the fan creations made for our competitions (total), now you know.
Reblogging ‘cuz I just remembered that the pic I took of my Eager Glove was in front of a poster of a huge squid attacking a ship (you can see the bottom corner of it). There’s like, sailors being sprayed with ink, and trying to chop off tentacles with axes, and falling to their deaths, and so on. Also an opportunistic chef with a meat cleaver at the ready (Fallen London, or THE MOST Fallen London???). It was very unintentionally appropriate. I feel proud.
The poster, btw, is called “A Tall Ship, A Taller Squid” and it’s by a local comics artist, Mark Monlux. I believe that, unfortunately, the poster itself was/is a con- exclusive item. Here’s a link to the artist’s blog post of it: http://markmonlux.blogspot.com/2008/06/tall-ship-taller-squid.html
“Eager Glove” by me, natch. Based on Failbetter Games’ Fallen London item of the same name.
